Anisha Bhalwani and Kamil Mamdani
to wed Saturday, September 6

As my hairdresser, Anisha has lived through much of this fundraising with me! She's cut my hair prior to races, seen me on short notice, helped with the massage event, and done what all stylists do best....listened.

And now she and her husband to be have helped out in one more way. In lieu of traditional wedding favors, they have made a generous donation to the Melanoma International Foundation. As noted for each guest, "We feel the finest gift is one which helps others live longer and healthier lives".

A big thank-you to the couple for their creativity and generosity!

NBC aired the IronGirl special on Saturday, July 26...in most markets!  In Tampa we were displaced by a telethon.  All was not lost, as NBC quickly sent a DVD.

Lin Dolen was the hostess of the day, inviting friends to her home to watch my fifteen minutes...or two minutes...of "fame".  Nearly $1000 was raised!  Thanks Lin and all who attended!

Highlight film coming soon!

Post race...it's been said it's the best part of race weekend!
More than 10 people from Tampa Bay circled Rhode Island...several times.  Despite maps and a GPS or two, we all managed to get lost once or twice.  At least we all got that out of our system before the start of the race.  The water was chilly, the roads were hilly, and a good time was had by all!  The able-bodied crowd scored lots of trophies and some qualifying spots, as well.  And after a few pops at the local brewery, there wasn't a complaint to be had...

We'll take the show on the road in just a few weeks for the Amica Ironman 70.3 Rhode Island! Mike and family will join me for the weekend of racing, rest, and rejuvenation. While there we'll be the guests of the Marriott Providence Downtown. We all appreciate their graciousness! Please visit them if you're in the Providence area!

Chair Massage Fundraiser
Toni & Guy Salon
June 7, 2008

Toni & Guy Salon at International Mall/Tampa was the gracious host of our first chair massage fundraiser. We were well seen by everyone from mall walkers to those receiving their pre-wedding up do! Nearly $300 was raised during the Saturday event. I was joined by three able assistants and students, Victoria Rodriguez, Randy Hudson, and Oscar Folks III. Thanks to them as well as the staff at Toni & Guy!

I know...I'm supposed to be running...
Iron Girl Lake Las Vegas Triathlon 4/12/08
What a great race! I'll be sure to go back next year! I didn't actually LOOK at the course, so somehow missed I'd be travelling to the "mountains". I actually saw the humor in the 63o water, the 18% climb, and the fact that I gave myself a bloody nose mid-bike ride. Was feeling a bit better than the week prior, so actually got to run a few steps here and there. I carried "Mikey D" in my pocket, and even got to send him a message at the finish line. It's all good when it's in the name of Mike and the Melanoma International Foundation!

I DID manage to run across the finish!

The first race of the season...and I'm walking every step.  The post surgical knee is just fine, but I can't seem to get the pesky lumbar discs to quiet down.  All in good time!  Surely this is a reminder that every step of life can't be comfortable.  Is every step of cancer treatment comfortable?  Who's the lucky one here!  Count it all joy!

Ask me how glad I was to finish!

He asked to look like Brad Pitt...
This is Mike just a couple of months after his surgeries. Note the "new ear". Mike's melanoma was on the back of his left ear (did you know that more melanomas are found on the left than the right side? Think of that extra sun while you're driving!) He had a large portion of his ear removed and rebuilt, and a neck dissection. In that surgery, they took out his most superficial neck muscle (his Sternocleidomastoid) and his lymph nodes. Your body has lots of back-up plans when it comes to muscles. Mike continues to work and retrain smaller neck muscles to get the job done. Holding up that huge head and heavy brain is no easy job, but Mike sure seems up to the challenge.

And my sister claims he DOES look a little bit more like Brad Pitt since the plastic surgeon got a hold of that ear...
